Obama Tells SF Chronicle He Will Bankrupt Coal Industry
Let me sort of describe my overall policy.
What I’ve said is that we would put a cap and trade system in place that is as aggressive, if not more aggressive, than anybody else’s out there.
I was the first to call for a 100% auction on the cap and trade system, which means that every unit of carbon or greenhouse gases emitted would be charged to the polluter. That will create a market in which whatever technologies are out there that are being presented, whatever power plants that are being built, that they would have to meet the rigors of that market and the ratcheted down caps that are being placed, imposed every year.
So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can; it’s just that it will bankrupt them because they’re going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted.
That will also generate billions of dollars that we can invest in solar, wind, biodiesel and other alternative energy approaches.
The only thing I’ve said with respect to coal, I haven’t been some coal booster. What I have said is that for us to take coal off the table as a (sic) ideological matter as opposed to saying if technology allows us to use coal in a clean way, we should pursue it.
So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can. It’s just that it will bankrupt them.

“I am consistently on record and will continue to be on record as opposing concealed carry”
-Chicago Tribune 4/27/04
“I think we have two conflicting traditions in this country.” (gun ownership and restrictions of guns).
-Politico 2/11/08
“So it’s not surprising then that they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them.”
-April 2, 2008
Barack Obama, of course. Many people across the country have no idea how dedicated this man is to removing guns and ammo from the hands of hunters and sportsmen. Don’t even mention personal defense.
Obama voted to ban almost all rifle ammunition commonly used for hunting and sports shooting. (United States Senate, vote no. 217, S. 397, July 29, 2005)
Obama voted to uphold local gun bans and the criminal prosecution of people who use firearms in self-defense. (Illinois Senate, SB 2165, vote 20, March 25, 2004)
In his only two votes on confirming Supreme Court nominees, Obama voted against two of the five justices (Chief Justice Roberts and Justice Samuel Alito) who later affirmed an individual right to keep and bear arms in the case of District of Columbia v. Heller.
Let’s see what Joe Biden has to say:
“I’m the guy that originally wrote the assault weapons ban that became law. Then we got defeated. Then Diane Feinstein went to town on it and did a great job.” — Senator Joseph Biden, CNN/YouTube 2008 Democratic Presidential Debate, Charleston, SC, July 23, 2008
“Banning guns is an idea whose time has come.” — Senator Joseph Biden, then-chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, in an interview with AP on November 18, 1993
Scary. These words speak for themselves. Please vote.
Lost River, WV - J. Michael Teets kicked off his General Election campaign for Commissioner of Agriculture with a commitment to use his experience in public service and farming to protect the state’s consumers and help West Virginia’s farmers compete well into the future.
Speaking at a rally recently in Lost River, Teets said his background makes him the best person to lead the Department of Agriculture in the 21st Century and ensure the safety of West Virginians’ food supply.
“This campaign is not about who is best known. It is about who is best able to lead,” Teets said. “The world is changing, as are the challenges faced by farmers and consumers. As Agricultural Commissioner, I will work with the employees, the Legislature and the public to make sure West Virginia has a system that is the envy of the nation.” Continue Reading »
As the 2008 election approaches, it is imperative that we have a vital, well funded Republican Party in WV. Without adequate funds we can not do the GOTV (Get Out The Vote) effort we need to win seats in the WV Legislature, elect our candidates for Governor, Supreme Court, U.S. Senate AND Congress, Secretary of State, Attorney General, and Commissioner of Agriculture. On the local level it is vital that we elect numbers of County Commissioners, Sheriffs, Circuit Clerks, Judges and other officials.

Remember that we are Republicans for a Reason —- Strong National Defense, Less Government, Lower Taxes, and More Personal Responsibility. As little as $5 would go a long way to help spread the cause in West Virginia.
Thank you for your generosity,

Congress is in recess until Sept. 8, but Rep. Shelley Moore Capito doesn’t plan to take much of a breather during her break, especially when it comes to tackling the nagging energy/fuel price crisis.
Capito, R-W.Va., is one of several Republican House members who’ve protested the recess, a vote forced by Speaker Nancy Pelosi two weeks ago. The vote was 213 to 212 to recess.
She and dozens of other Republicans stayed on the floor after Congress adjourned. The lights were turned out and the cameras were shut off.
“I was really astounded when I walked into the House chamber and all the lights were off,” Capito said Monday. “There were still people in the gallery and some members of Congress lobbying to turn the lights back on and getting back to work. While we gave speeches, the tourists watching started cheering, reflecting their frustrations that we weren’t at work. We were recessing.”
Democrats outnumber Republicans in West Virginia nearly 2 to 1 - yet this state voted for the Bush-Cheney presidential ticket in 2000 and 2004. Now, the Mountain State will “go Republican” again in the 2008 race for the White House, experts say.

Five major analyst groups unanimously rank West Virginia as a “red state” solidly favoring Republican John McCain for president, according to a Monday report.
University of Virginia expert Larry Sabato - who spoke in Charleston at the 1996 W.E. “Ned” Chilton III Leadership Lecture - said there’s “no real chance for upset” by Democrat Barack Obama in West Virginia.
