The WV Conservative Foundation is working everyday to fight for working families in WV. Our latest event was a Rally for Coal at the Coal Miner Statue on the grounds of the State Capital in Charleston yesterday. With just a couple days advance notice and a couple emails, we had a remarkably large and boisterous crowd in attendance. The best news? An incredible amount of media coverage across the United States and internationally. Total cost for the event? Less than $100. The impact? Priceless. More strategic efforts are being planned.
The media coverage of the coal rally yesterday was absolutely a homerun. We were covered in Dallas, Nashville and greater Tennessee, Kentucky, Pittsburgh, Richmond, Washington, Ohio, and, of course, statewide, and we were even carried on TheStreet.com, MSN Money.com, Businessweek.com, Forbes.com, YahooFinance.com, and other national websites. Even The India Times AND the Spanish language newspaper in Los Angeles, Vivelo Hoy. REMARKABLE!!! CRAZY!!!!!!

Newly discovered evidence shows the radical advocacy group ACORN has a man in the Obama White House.
This power behind the throne is longtime ACORN operative Patrick Gaspard. He holds the title of White House political affairs director, the same title Karl Rove held in President Bush’s White House.
Evidence shows that years before he joined the Obama administration, Gaspard was ACORN boss Bertha Lewis’s political director in New York.
Lewis, the current “chief organizer” or CEO of ACORN, was head of New York ACORN from at least 1994 through 2008, when she took over as national leader of ACORN. With Gaspard at work in the White House, Lewis might as well be speaking to President Obama through an earpiece as he goes about his daily business ruining the country.
Hello Hardy County Republicans! The winter meeting of the West Virginia Republicans Executive committee was held in Charleston February 21, 2009. I won’ t bore you all the business details at this time but if any one wants more detailed information I will be glad to share that information with you.
The important points of the meeting for our County are:
Continue to develop our executive committee and fill vacancies.
Develop precincts find a Captain for each.
Start looking for Republican Candidates to run for all offices coming up in the 2010 election.
The Executive Committee would like candidates in line by June 2009 so that they can provide training, help with press relations and advice for election. The following offices will be coming up:

Federal
U.S. House of Representatives - All three seats
State
State Senate - 17 seats, one in each district
House of Delegates - All 100 seats
County
County Commission - At least one full term in each county
Board of Education - Three seats in each county

The West Virginia Republican Party today unveiled a new website featuring commentary from Republicans around the state offering their perspectives on the future of the Republican Party.
The new website, www.wvgopthinktank.org, kicks off with articles from Republicans ranging from state lawmakers to county chairs to state committee members and activists. Also featured is a WVGOP Speakers Bureau.
Dr. Doug McKinney, chairman of the WVGOP, said the new site will be an evolving entity updated frequently with new columns and other information. “This is a starting point for the conversation about our purpose and our future,” said McKinney. “The Republican Party is having similar discussions all across the country. By creating new ways for their voices to be heard, we’ll make sure that Republicans everywhere will be able to offer their thoughts and advice on the direction of our party, and how best to achieve victory in future elections.”
McKinney said the state party will also initiate a series of regional roundtable discussions across West Virginia seeking input from Republicans in all parts of the state.
“We know Republicans face different challenges in different regions,” said McKinney. “By encouraging input and holding face to face roundtable meetings, we’ll determine how the state party can best meet the needs of our GOP officeholders, officials, candidates and activists. Communication is the first key toward building a roadmap for victory.”
Obama Tells SF Chronicle He Will Bankrupt Coal Industry
Let me sort of describe my overall policy.
What I’ve said is that we would put a cap and trade system in place that is as aggressive, if not more aggressive, than anybody else’s out there.
I was the first to call for a 100% auction on the cap and trade system, which means that every unit of carbon or greenhouse gases emitted would be charged to the polluter. That will create a market in which whatever technologies are out there that are being presented, whatever power plants that are being built, that they would have to meet the rigors of that market and the ratcheted down caps that are being placed, imposed every year.
So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can; it’s just that it will bankrupt them because they’re going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted.
That will also generate billions of dollars that we can invest in solar, wind, biodiesel and other alternative energy approaches.
The only thing I’ve said with respect to coal, I haven’t been some coal booster. What I have said is that for us to take coal off the table as a (sic) ideological matter as opposed to saying if technology allows us to use coal in a clean way, we should pursue it.
So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can. It’s just that it will bankrupt them.
